What is Offsetting an Effect?

You can apply Intensity, Colour, Beam, and Position effects to your lights by selecting the lights you wish to use, and tapping EFFECT. You will be presented with this screen:

Tapping automatically create effects will create 32 different effects. Different effects will be highlighted, depending on the currently selected fixtures. For example a dimmer will just have intensity effects available, whereas some moving lights may have all effects available to use:

If you tap on an effect palette and apply an effect to your lights, that effect will run across all your selected lights. It may however by necessary that all of your lights are running the same effect, but not at exactly the same time. This is called Offsetting an Effect. You can achieve this really easily using the Offset buttons long the top of the Effects Window:

The effect will then be offset, in the order in which you selected your lights. You have the option for individual offsets, and also offsets by group if you select fixtures using groups. There is also a random offset. If you want a truly random effect, select your lights in a random order and then offset your effect. Alternatively you can define the fanned behaviour for when you hold SHIFT and dial the offset wheel. This is done by holding SETUP and tapping the EFFECT button to open the Effect Wheel Editing Options Window:

Once you have adjusted speed, size, and offset controls using the offset options and encoder wheels, you can save this edited effect as your own effect, by tapping RECORD, and then tapping an empty effect palette marked with an asterisk:

On all ZerOS consoles apart from FLX S consoles, you can use the Wave-forms tab top left of the window to go in and define effects to each individual parameter of your fixtures, and define speeds/waves per parameter:

Once you have used the effects engine, you can then save this as an effects palette too in the same way, tap RECORD, and tap an empty Palette. To stop an effect, tap the Effect Palette number 1 labelled "No Effect", or hold EFFECT + tap HOME.
